What to Do at Animal Kingdom

Rides / Attractions

Animal Kingdom offers a blend of wildlife conservation and immersive attractions, featuring a variety of rides and attractions that are designed to transport you into exotic lands and offer insights into the animal kingdom.

The centerpiece, Pandora – The World of Avatar, houses popular attractions such as Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey, both offering immersive experiences set in the fictional world of Pandora. Avatar Flight of Passage is a 3D flying simulator set in the Avatar universe and allows guests to fly on a mountain Banshee across the landscape of Pandora.  The ride uses special effects and combines sight, smell, and sound.

If you are sensitive to motion sickness, you might want to skip Avatar Flight of Passage.

Kilimanjaro Safaris provides guests with a guided tour through an African savanna habitat, where they can observe animals in a naturalistic setting. Expedition Everest (our favorite ride in the Animal Kingdom!) offers a high-speed coaster journey through the Himalayas, while Dinosaur takes guests on a time-travel adventure to the prehistoric era. These attractions, along with live shows, animal exhibits, and interactive experiences, combine to create Animal Kingdom’s distinctive blend of entertainment, education, and conservation.

Food

Animal Kingdom’s food and dining include quick-service options like Satu’li Canteen offer customizable bowls and plates inspired by Pandora’s exotic landscape, while Flame Tree Barbecue features smoked meats and outdoor seating overlooking the Discovery River.

Guests can dine at Tiffins, a full-service restaurant that combines global flavors with art and culture, or indulge in African-inspired cuisine at Tusker House Restaurant. The park also offers unique dining experiences like the Rainforest Café, which immerses diners in a lush jungle setting.

When we visited Animal Kingdom, the food was unfortunately not very good, and it was similar to what you would get at the food court in your local mall. Out of all the Disney World parks, the food at Animal Kingdom was by far the worst.

The only positive thing to say about the food in Animal Kingdom is the pineapple Dole Whip, a dairy-free soft serve made from real pineapple juice. This treat has gained a fan base for its sweet, tangy flavor and creamy texture. You can order it either as a soft serve swirl or in float form where it’s combined with pineapple juice. Try it both ways!

The pineapple Dole Whip can be found at the Tamu Tamu Refreshments kiosk stand in the Africa section of the park near the entrance to the Harambe Village.

You can also get it outside of Animal Kingdom, at the Aloha Isle located in Adventureland and the Pineapple Lanai located in the Polynesian Resort.
